White Pines

large white pines in Deep River

The economic foundation of the upper Ottawa Valley was originally based on the harvesting of white pines. While the giant trees of the 19th century are long gone, their progeny still characterize the landscape.

Perhaps you've noticed some changes around here. Most obviously, I've added the facility for viewers to comment on my various posts. So, if you've got something you'd like to say, fire away! I've also added a "feeds & links" page that tracks changes to various selected photoblogs. And lastly, I've added the facility to navigate backward and forward a year at a time (assuming the target page exists). This would allow tracking the advance of spring this year versus last year for example. (It might also show that I don't have a lot of imagination concerning where I go at the various times of the year.) In any event, I hope these new features improve the site and perhaps I can put the software writing behind me for a while and get out and take some pictures!
